“God, by his mighty power, is able to do far more than we would ever dare to dream or ask – beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts or hopes. May he be given glory forever.”
– Ephesians 3:20-21, Living Bible/Bible League

Dancing On Rainbows

Do you like to have fun? Would you like to dance on rainbows? You can, you know! Everyone loves a rainbow. People rush out of house to see them. Whenever they appear everyone stops what they are doing and says:”Look at the rainbow! Isn’t it beautiful?” We all want to share its beauty with someone, preferably someone special. It is a moment of magic, though sadly fleeting. We would all like to catch them and keep them and in a way we do: in our hearts.
Dancing on a rainbow is really very easy. You just have to believe that you can. You have to believe that when you leap up there you won’t fall through. That is called faith. But faith isn’t easy to find and even harder to keep.

I have been dancing on rainbows all my life and have fallen through more times than I care to tell you. The loving hands that helped me leap on the rainbow always help to pick me up after I crash completely to smithereens on the rocks of this world. If there is a mistake or a bad decision or an ego trip or a way to worship the things of this life I have found them all and crashed on their rocky surface. They do not provide the joy that my dreams assured me that they would. These worldly things have not been alluring enough to keep me from picking myself up and leaping again to regain my rainbow and the loving hands have always been there to welcome me back no matter how bad I have been. It’s just too much fun up there to miss a minute… Stop for a moment and think how wonderful it is to always be welcomed with unquestioning love.

Just what is it like on this ephemeral phenomenon in the sky? This nebulous multicolored whimsy that so enchants us? Well, talk about a high! You can’t imagine the pure unmitigated joy. Nothing seems too difficult, nothing seems too sad to overcome. Nothing beyond dreaming. Loneliness is a memory because up there you are never alone. The Lord is with you now and forever and he is FULL of fun and laughter. Why do you think he made me? He needed a good joke.

Forever is just that pot of gold YOU’VE ALWAYS HEARD ABOUT. What is in that pot of gold … is everything you love, and it is yours to keep. Your loved ones may be temporarily taken but they are just waiting for you and they have no pain or conflicts. They are up there having fun waiting for you to complete the party. In your pot of gold is that promise. It is real and it is true and it is there for anyone who has the faith to accept it. That seemingly ephemeral rainbow is simply the faith, the belief that Jesus died so that we would not have to. Unfortunately,”the wages of sin is death” and we have all sinned. I’m sorry but anger, gossip, “white lies” (No such thing! A lie is a lie!) are all sins. (Not to mention sarcasm, talking behind someone’s back… you can kill with the tongue, you know.) We say such awful things in the heat of anger and don’t even mean it, but the words have been said and they can haunt a child or a friend or a loved one all their lives.

I have asked myself, “How many people would I die for?” Not many. My children? Yes, I could take a gun shot or a jump off a building for them. To die like Christ did? I’m not so sure. In fact, I’m sure I could not. What made his death so different was that he did not have to die. He was GOD! He could have come down from the cross once he was condemned. He chose to die for us because WE WOULD NOT change. We cannot even keep our new years resolutions. Someone had to pay. He did! His death paid our debt. He died for a debt he did not owe so that we could live with a debt we would not pay.

Because he died for us, WE have eternal life… the pot of gold. Do you have it? Oh, how I wish that you were on the rainbow with me! It is such glorious FUN! Take my hand and come on up… I promise you the time of your life… not just for now but forever and ever and ever!

P.S. Your dogs and cats are here!!! He never gives you something to love that he does not give back…

Let us close with these lines of scripture:

When I think of the wisdom and scope of his plan I fall down on my knees and pray to the Father of all the great family of God – some of them already in heaven and some down here on earth – that out of his glorious unlimited resources he will give you the mighty inner strengthening of his Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love: and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so at last you will be filled up with God himself.

Now glory be to God who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of-infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes. May he be given glory forever and ever through endless ages because of his master plan of salvation for the Church through Jesus Christ.
